Dyeing To Knit

I was taught to knit and crochet as a child by my mum. In 2013, I was forced to give up full time work due to knee surgery. I joined a knitting group and discovered indie dyed yarn. I thought I would have a play, and I was totally hooked. I started Dyeing to Knit late in 2018. I absolutely love what I do and the people that I have met along the way.

Hi, I'm Michelle, dyer behind Dyeing to Knit!

I've been knitting and crocheting for as long as I can remember. My mum taught me to do both as a child. She made my school  jumper every year, a hideous dark green (that was the uniform). Maybe that's where my love hate relationship with green came from! As a teen, I crocheted a bikini!! I don't think I'm brave enough to put it up here but I do have a pic. Even as an adult when I moved out of home, Mum made me jumpers every winter. They were always stylish and I used to get so many comments about them.

In 2014, I started having issues with my left knee which led to many surgeries and hence, more knitting/crochet time. I started knitting socks as thank you gifts for friends who helped during my recovery. This is when I discovered hand dyed yarn and my yarny addiction started!!

I bought yarn from other Australian hand dyers and fell in love. Towards the end of 2018, I started playing with food colouring, then I decided to buy just a couple of dyes and this is how it all began. Originally I was dyeing yarn for me to use, then decided at the beginning of 2019 to open an Etsy Shop and see how it went, and that was the beginning of Dyeing to Knit.

I love creating different colourways and learning new techniques. I will never be the kind of dyer who dyes the same thing day in day out. Of course, when certain colourways are popular I dye them again, but I'm always thinking of something new.

It gives me so much pleasure to see my yarn out in the world and made into something special that will be part of your everyday lives. Please tag me on any of the socials so I can see what you've made.
